Welcome to Caroline Chavinier

Welcome to Caroline Chavinier

Caroline Chavinier joined the INRAE Sol&Tox team at the EcoSys unit on December 1st, 2025, as a PhD student. She is supervised by Valérie Pot (EcoSys) and Julien Tournebise (Hycar).

Caroline graduated from the National School of Agronomy and Food Industry (ENSAIA). She then worked for two years at Inthy Energies before starting her PhD.

Her PhD project, entitled “Resilience of miscanthus-cultivated soils to pesticides: consequences for groundwater recharge quality”, focuses on the fate of pesticides and their transformation products in soils. The project involves monitoring two drained fields, where water and soil samples are collected and analyzed to improve a mechanistic model describing the transfer and these compounds in both soil and drainage water. The objective is to compare pesticide and transformation product concentrations between a conventional crop rotation system (rapeseed—wheat—barley) and a miscanthus-based system.

With an engineering background, Caroline initially worked for two years in the renewable energy sector before pursuing a PhD in soil science, focusing on the fate of pesticides and their transformation products in soils. Although her work is closely connected to the soil, she is also passionate about swimming and enjoys spending time in water – an environment that, like soil, is affected by pollution processes. In addition to her aquatic activities, she enjoys reading and walking, both in natural landscapes and urban settings.
